The currently achieved high level of digitizing the up-to-date monitoring of radiolocation complexes (RCM) and availability of the built-in control system, registering the data on the technical state of the components, permits one to switch to forehanded and highly accurate estimation of reliability characteristics using the real radar monitoring systems data. The implementation of such a method for real-time estimation of reliability characteristics based on the parameters of the technical state of the radar monitoring systems components is possible, if a special algorithm for refining the distribution parameters is developed using the empirical distribution function. In the paper, the RCM failures data has been analyzed, and two methods of description of such data have been considered: an approximation by the analytical distribution and an empirical distribution. To compare these two methods, the failure distribution density, the failure rate and γ -percent resources have been computed. It has been determined that the description through the analytical distribution is inadequate. A small p-level of significance during approximation by the maximum likelihood method, significantly different failure rates and γ -resources have indicated that the description through the analytical distribution, and, as a result, the forecast of the failure probability is inadequate.
