One of the solutions to the problem of accumulating of polyethylene packaging at solid waste landfills is usage of modified polyethylene. The decomposition of such polyethylene under natural conditions permits to reduce the damage from the environmental pollution. In this work, based on the methodology for assessing the prevented environmental damage and the Biodegradable program the method for rapid assessment of environmental and economic efficiency of replacing plastic packaging with oxo-degradable materials in a selected area has been proposed. The source data are the area, its population and the cost of modified polypropylene, it has been determined that when packaging is replaced with the oxo-degradable analogues, the place it occupies at the landfill will be set free after about 1.5 years, which will reduce the cost of restoring the land resources and will prevent the land loss as a result of the prolonged degradation.
